How Long Is The Cybertruck
- Tesla Cybertruck production is delayed until 2022 after being originally scheduled for the end of this year.
- The Cybertruck will be built at Tesla's new factory in Austin, Texas, and it's claimed to have 500-plus miles of range and reach 60 mph in under 2.9 seconds in its top tri-motor configuration.
- Pricing starts at $39,900 for the Single Motor RWD model.
When Tesla unveiled the boxy, door stopper–shaped Cybertruck electric pickup in late 2019, it promised that production would begin in late 2021. Now, according to Tesla's website, production won't begin until 2022, which is when Ford's electric pickup, the F-150 Lightning, will start production. We can't say we're shocked.
Car and Driver
The Tesla Roadster and Semi Truck, both revealed in 2017, have yet to see production, either. The Cybertruck will be built at Tesla's new factory in Austin, Texas, and the single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive models are scheduled to arrive first. Initially, production of the top tri-motor, all-wheel-drive was slated for a year after, so it's possible it's delayed until 2023 now.
Tesla is still accepting $100 refundable deposits for the Cybertruck. According to the company's website, pricing starts at $39,900 for the Single Motor RWD model, which is claimed to offer more than 250 miles of range and reach 60 mph in less than 6.5 seconds. The Dual Motor AWD model is priced starting at $49,900, and it boasts a claimed range of more than 300 miles and a zero-to-60-mph launch in under 4.5 seconds. The Tri Motor is the most expensive model, starting at $69,900, and it's claimed to travel over 500 miles on a single charge and reach 60 mph in under 2.9 seconds.
Production of the GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 electric pickup is scheduled for this fall, and the Rivian R1T Launch Edition electric truck, although recently delayed, will reach customers in September, the company says. Chevrolet also has an electric Silverado pickup claiming 400 miles of range coming in either 2023 or 2024, and Ram says it'll build an EV 1500 pickup by 2024.
